SEBI Validated UPI FAQs

Investors can choose their preferred mode of payment such as:
  • UPI
  • IMPS
  • NEFT
  • RTGS
  • Cheque
However, if an investor chooses to make payment through UPI to a registered intermediary, then the payment must be made only through the new validated UPI ID allotted to that intermediary.

Before making payment, investors should verify the following:
  1. The UPI ID should display the name of the intermediary followed by the category abbreviation such as:
    • brk = Broker
    • mf = Mutual Fund
  2. The validated handle should contain @valid followed by the bank name.
  3. The payment confirmation screen should display a white thumbs-up icon inside a green triangle.
  4. The QR Code generated using the official utility should also contain:
    • White thumbs-up icon inside green triangle
    • Validated UPI ID displayed below the QR Code

No. The new validated UPI IDs are meant only for registered intermediaries. Investors can continue using their existing UPI IDs while making payments.

The validated UPI IDs use the same banking infrastructure as earlier UPI handles. If your transaction fails due to any technical issue, you should contact your respective bank for assistance.
Important Note

These FAQs are provided as per Annexure F of the SEBI Circular regarding the Validated UPI Payment Mechanism for registered intermediaries. Always verify the validated UPI ID, QR Code and the confirmation symbol before making any payment.
